At Restoria we offer expert rust treatment and prevention to bring your classic car back to life and ensure long-lasting rust protection.

Understanding Rust and Its Impact on Classic Cars

When it comes to classic cars, rust and surface corrosion can be serious problems. Rust removal is an important aspect of restoring these vehicles as damage caused by oxidation undermines the structural stability and significantly reduces its value. One way to prevent rust is to immediately fix any chipping paint.

The coat of paint applied on a car’s exterior serves not only aesthetically, but also protects against rust formation. Once that layer has been compromised, and the bare metal is exposed, rusty patches may start to spread all around the metal surfaces where they can diminish any vintage automobile’s worth in terms of quality or price making prevention incredibly beneficial.

At Restoria, we offer classic car resprays that can help prevent your classic car from developing surface rust. If it’s too late and your car has already begun to rust, our rust removal and treatment service will get the job done.

How Does Rust Treatment Work?

We will begin the process by assessing the rust damage on your classic car before treating it. Rust can vary from surface corrosion and scaling, up to severe rot that may require new pieces to be welded into place.

Lucky for you, we also offer welding and panel fabrication as part of our classic car restoration service.

Once we’ve determined the severity of the rust damage, we can begin to work on the car. This will typically begin with surface preparation – cleaning and degreasing to remove dirt and loose rust. Special tools such as wire brush scrapers are used to create a clean surface. This creates the conditions for primer and paint to effectively stick to the surface of the car. a strong primer and paint coating will combat oxidation and rust. We’ll then add protective coatings to these cars for further rustproofing. This can be a protective wax, which provides an effective protective barrier from moisture and oxygen on metal surfaces, thereby preventing the accumulation of rust in the future.

Preventing Surface Rust At Home

Classic car owners need to maintain their cars themselves by taking precautions in order to protect their vehicles from rust formation. Proper maintenance and protective barriers are key elements of corrosion protection that can guarantee the longevity of a classic car’s life span, as well as preserve its value.

Regularly inspecting your classic car for any signs of rust is important to protect it from damage. Monthly checks are highly recommended, particularly on the more susceptible areas such as doors and window sills, wheel arches, lower wings and structural frames – both bare metal and rusty surfaces should be carefully scrutinized.

Keep it clean by removing dirt and (in the winter time) salts that it may pick up. Inspect all crevices where potential corrosion may occur (for example around windows) and apply wax or sealants on metal parts every six months, this should help reduce any risk associated with oxidation forming over time. Cover exposed areas regularly.

For classic car preservation, applying protective barriers such as cavity wax and underbody wax to vulnerable parts of the vehicle can protect against rust. To ensure complete coverage with cavity waxes, use an appropriate spray pattern while making sure that enough product is applied inside each nook or cranny. This creates a shield which blocks out moisture and oxygen from these areas so no new rust will form.

By taking timely action when spotting early stages of corrosion, much bigger problems can usually be avoided in the future – saving time (and potentially money) which would otherwise have been needed for costly repairs or part replacements down the line.
