We’re often asked how long a classic car restoration project takes and the answer, really is, it depends! Depending on what needs to be done, it can take anywhere from a few days to over a year.

This particular Jensen Interceptor project involved taking the car from a near wreck to a Concours classic over a twelve-month period on behalf of its owner. We documented every stage of this restoration project and as you can see going through our gallery – it was a big project!

Larger projects are often the most satisfying though, and it’s always amazing to bring a classic car back to its glory days.

The first step in this restoration projection was to strip the car completely and cut out of all the rust. Complete bare metal restorations from rusty shells are one of our specialities. If you have rust, it’s essential to deal with it beginning any additional work. A solid, well-maintained body is essential before rebuilding the interior or painting.

After stripping out of all of the rust, we fitted fabricated brand new panels, including the entire roof panel. These created a good as new shell and we were for the next stage.

The second test involved testing all of the main components and rebuilding components where necessary as we progressed. We ended up needing to rebuild the engine, gearbox, axles and braking system.

Thirdly, we made sensible modifications including unleaded conversion, upgraded suspension, new timing chain and flywheel to address original design flaws, wiring loom and new exhaust system. While we love the look of classic cars, modern mechanics do mean that we can often address original design flaws and improve upon them.

The last step involved making brand new leather interiors and a full set of carpets. Finally, we resprayed the car back to its original colour.

You can find out more about why many collectors choose to restore their car back to its classic car in our blog on painting your classic car

The result as you can see from the pictures was a stunning car and happy customer who we have gone onto complete other projects for.
