What is a Restomod?

Restmods have only recently gained popularity in the classic car community, but it absolutely looks to be here to stay. Many classic car lovers want to meticulously repair their car to its original state. But, this isn’t always practical for then hitting the roads! More classic car lovers than ever want to make daily use of their classic cars. This means they need performance, comfort, and efficiency that can match a modern car.

Why Restomod a classic car?

Classic cars, especially in the 50s and 60s, may look incredible but they don’t always have the comfort of a classic car. In many classic cars options like electric windows and air conditioning were paid extras, or not an option at all! While this may seem like a sleek, stripped back design, try driving around in a summer heatwave and see how you feel.

Restomods also help classic cars comply with safety regulations and emission standards. This can be everything from seatbelts and airbags to modern brakes!

A restomod allows you to enjoy the design of a classic car without sacrificing performance and comfort. Restomodding allows you to fit power steering, radios and electronics that make your car a pleasure to drive.

Can You Restomod Any Car?

Pretty much all classic cars can benefit from some form of restomod. If you want to find out more about what options are available for your classic car, get in touch with a member of the Restoria Classics team. We’ll be more than happy to help.

What’s the difference between a classic car restoration and classic car restomod?

A classic car restoration looks to rebuild your car back to its original glory days. This means either sourcing original parts or car parts fabrications to carry out repairs and restorations. Classic car restoration is a very detailed orientated process, but it’s immensely rewarding.

A classic car restomod uses modern parts and technology to modernise the car. You often can’t tell a classic car has been resto-modded until you actually pop the hood and take a look. Some cars will require restomods if you want them to pass a classic car MOT. They might need to fit airbags and modern brakes, but a good classic car mechanic will be able to advise you.

One of the biggest similarities is they both seek to restore the classic car’s appearance to its original look. The focus is really on the mechanical and electrical side of the car. It will depend on what you want from your classic car customisations which is the right choice for you.
